Death and Dying System
Death
Impiltur – The Forgotten Kingdom Persistent World is crafted using the Hard Core Ruleset (HCR). A component of this system is the concept of ‘permadeath’. When a character dies, they are sent to the Fugue Plane where they will remain
regardless of a server reset or the character’s player logging out and returning. For this reason, death is often permanent; and you are, therefore, advised to take care as you travel the lands.
It is possible, however, to return to the land of the living from the Fugue Plane: through the actions of a very powerful cleric or through direct DM intervention.
There are many paths which lead to death, some fair and others significantly less fair. However, because a DM cannot monitor the events of the realm at all times and because of the potential for a player to abuse this fact, free raises will not be awarded for any reason including death caused by lag unless a DM has personally witnessed the death. It is therefore advised that one always prepare oneself prior to adventuring and travel with others to ensure one’s safety.
Dying
When a character finds herself wounded and her hit points have been reduced below zero, she will collapse to the ground and begin to die. While in this state of dying, the character will commence to bleed, losing one hit point per
round (one hit point every six seconds). If at any time, her hit points are reduced to -10, the character will die and be sent to the Fugue Plane.
However, there is hope. For there is a 10% chance each round that the character will stabilize. While stable, the character will remain unconscious and continue to bleed, though at a much slower rate: one hit point every game hour (two minutes). In addition to slower bleeding, there is a 10% chance each game hour that the character will begin to recover. While recovering, the character will regain consciousness and begin to heal one hit point every game hour. She will continue to gain one hit point every game hour while recovering until her hit points rise above zero unless, of course, she manages to spontaneously recover (10% chance each game hour).
While in any dying state, a character can be healed with any means that would bring her hit points above zero. Another character may also attempt to stop the bleeding and stabilize a dying character with the use of healing kits or her healing skill. (Simply USE the heal ability in one’s inventory and select the dying character.)
If a player should log out while the character is in a state of dying, stabilization, or recovering, the character will be sent immediately to the Fugue. Therefore, it is advised that a player wait out the process in the event that her character stabilizes or recovers.
