Mapping System
Characters have the ability to create custom maps as they adventure through the land. To create a map, the character must possess a quill, ink, and a writable medium. Currently, valid media are journals and mapping parchment which are available for purchase at various shops throughout the module.
When entering a new area that one wishes to map, activate the medium’s Unique Power Self option in the radial menu and follow the prompts of the dialogue. One mapping attempt is allowed each rest cycle in a similar fashion to crafting and each attempt will use up a portion of ink.
Characters can create a map of a single area; a larger regional map of up to 4 areas, or create a book of maps which can hold up to 50 separate maps. Maps can then be examined to reveal its particular characteristics by activating the map’s Unique Power Self option.
As a character enters an area, that area will be revealed if they have the corresponding map without needing to examine it. Should the character obtain the map while in the particular area to be revealed, simply activating the map and selecting the appropriate option will reveal the area. The area will then remain revealed as long as the character possesses the map.
Terrain, weather, and time of day influence the difficulty of the mapping attempt and the amount of time that a character must spend mapping an area. Bards, rangers, and wizards enjoy a slight advantage over other classes when mapping as do dwarves when underground.
Characters may also find it beneficial to utilize a mapping kit to aid them in their mapping attempts which gives a slight bonus to any mapping attempt.
The mapping scripts are inspired by Vulcano’s crafting system but have been heavily modified for Impiltur.
