Selecting a Deity
While it is not necessary for a character to patronize a deity in Impiltur, doing so may add additional depth to a character’s background. In some cases, however, certain classes require that a valid deity is selected and validated to progress in level and/or enable the use of a particular class’ feats, spells, and skills. For additional information on which classes require a valid deity selection, please visit the Class Considerations page.
Valid deities must be selected from one of the pantheons typically venerated in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. Each deity also has alignment and domain requirements that must match those of the character for the selection to be valid.
Deity selections are validated in-game within the Portal to Impiltur Port Authority building by speaking with the monk Jarius who generally resides on the second floor. A complete list of valid deity selections is also available on the bookshelf on the second floor. This list is outlined below along with each deity’s alignment and domain requirements.
Deity names followed by “※” are valid nature deities.
FAERÛNIAN PANTHEON
The following deities are the major and minor deities of Faerûn as described in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting.
DWARVEN PANTHEON
Collectively, the dwarven pantheon is referred to as the Morndinsamman, which translates as either “shield brothers on high” or “high dwarves.” The pantheon is led by Moradin, the creator of the dwarves.
ELVEN PANTHEON
Known collectively as the Seldarine, which translates to “the fellowship of brothers and sisters of the wood,” the elven pantheon is led by Corellon Larethian. Many of the elven deities have close ties to other sylvan deities such
as Mielikki.
GNOME PANTHEON
Referred to as the Lords of the Golden Hills, the gnome pantheon is led by Garl Glittergold.
HALFLING PANTHEON
The deity Yondalla rules the pantheon of the halfling peoples, and the group takes its collective name from her: Yondalla’s Children.
MULHORANDI PANTHEON
When the Imaskari stole thousands of people from another world to be their slaves, the prisoners brought with their faith, and their deities, the Mulhorandi pantheon, with them.
Deities and their descriptions have been excerpted from the Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms sourcebook entitled Faiths and Pantheons by Eric L. Boyd and Erik Mona.
