Character Creation Guidelines
Character Background
It is important to at least initially think about who your character is, where he or she comes from, his or her motivations, fears, likes, dislikes, etc. Having this basic information will help shape who your character is and how
he or she will react to various situations. Take some time prior to creating a character to establish his or her background as it will greatly enrich the role-playing experience for both you and others.
Naming
Players are expected to use names fitting for a fantasy server. If you have trouble deriving a name, use the random name generator incorporated into the game during character creation.
Age
Characters should be of adventuring age for their given race. Characters who are children are not allowed.
Alignment Restrictions
Players are not allowed to portray characters of chaotic evil alignments as this is reserved for the minions of the DMs.
Attributes (Stats)
Players may assign any value to their character’s attributes. However, players will be expected to consistently role-play these attributes and have legitimate background reasoning for any statistics that are far below or above average.
While min-maxing (increasing some stats to high levels while completely neglecting others) is not forbidden, players must effectively and consistently portray the neglected stats. For example, a character with 7 Intelligence would
not speak eloquently and potentially not coherently. One reason for this may be that the character did not have an education in his youth. Another example would be a character whose Constitution is 6. This character most likely would
be sickly, easily out of breath, and frail. Keep in mind that the stats are one method of determining the abilities of your character and help to shape who that character is.
Impiltur – The Forgotten Kingdom also utilizes a custom language system in which the character’s Intelligence score is used to determine the number of bonus languages the character knows upon character creation. A 1st level character begins with a number of bonus languages equal to his or her intelligence bonus. Thus, a 1st level character with an intelligence of 14 (Int bonus of +2) would be allowed to choose two additional bonus languages.
Skills
A number of skills have been modified or are not used on Impiltur – The Forgotten Kingdom. Please take this into consideration when allocating skill points during character creation.
Craft Armor, Craft Trap, and Craft Weapon: This module uses a modified version of Vulcano’s crafting system which allows the player to assign various crafting skills to these three base skills. Setup of this system is accomplished through the Crafting Radial Menu.
Lore: As noted above under Attributes, the Lore skill is used to track the number of languages a PC is able to speak in addition to his or her ability to identify unknown magical items.
Ride: This skill is not used in this module.
Miscellaneous Skills: A number of additional skills have been added which all characters possess upon character creation and work in conjunction with a few of the custom scripted systems within the game. These skills are described in further detail on this page.
